Folks, I just got back in from a storm chase across the Gaines County area. The highway from Hobbs to Seminole was covered with hail from pea to golf ball size. Now, this is not that unusual for west Texas.
What is unusual, that the hail was 18" deep - a foot and a half of hail!!!! They had to close the highway and bring out plows to get it off the road. It was just like a blizzard - trucks jack-knifed, cars slidding off into the ditch, etc.
Not bad for April 3, and the first storm chase of the season.
And I got my first tornado of the year - a short lived one near Seminole.

WOW, sounds wild. THAT, is a lot of hail. I remember seing hail piled up like snow in Denver before, but it was not near that deep.

We were watching the news and heard about the piled up hail. I was going to post about that today; you had a couple of tornado warnings, etc, I was going to ask if any touched down. You're a storm chaser??

You're a storm chaser?? ;D Yep, for nearly 30 years! The only touchdowns I know of were a couple in rural areas near Pecos and the one I saw near Seminole. It was only down for a minutes or so. I don't think there was any tornado damage. There were several vehicles ruined by driving off in the deep water in the ditches along the highway. And it's still raining........

Was gonna say "High and dry" here, but how about High and Soggy....lots of mini lakes over here, but I think we are out from under the flash flood warnings...have to check as they might have extended it. This is such a God send for this area, I will not even think of complaining...but will start to worry if the animals start gathering two by two
