Hello all! We are new to both Abilene and GeoCaching. As I write this, we have only completed 20 caches (in 2 days) and have yet to hide our own. We were wondering if there were any groups in this area, etc. to make this more of a community event.

Yes there are a few locals in Abilene. You should be able to find them if you look under the hiders in your area. If you make it down to San Angelo one day, you can probbaly hook up with some of our local cachers. San Angelo is very active with caches and cachers right now. You could easily knock out 20 in a day here. Well email me if you have any questions.

I forgot to add my wife goes to Abilene once a month for the Army, so she may be able to meet up with ya, and have dinner and chat about caching in the area.

Thanks BigJon. I have met with a couple of the cachers in this area but they were also pretty new to the game. Are there a lot of caches in San Angelo? Are there enough there to justify an entire weekend and a hotel room?

I would think so. I have done two days with a new local cacher and knocked out 16 each day with tons more to do, and lots of daylight left. You could also take the tour of lights along the river at night, they turn them off at 10, so cache all day then do the tour. If you want we could met up and have a meal with a couple cachers, if they are avaible.

Thanks! Sounds like a good idea. We are going to DFW for the holidays so we will probably head out that way some time at the beginning of the year. Whoi knows, maybe we will have exhausted all the caches around Abilene by then!

HI, welcome to the area. My wife and I are fairly new also. We live in Tuscola, south of Abilene. We would be interested in getting with a bunch of the area peeps and all meeting. We have only run into one other couple that caches, sumbirdie, I think was there name.

Hello! I have spoken with AMMOMAN about trying to get a group together. We talked about possibly starting something after the 1st of the year. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I think it would be a good time if we Abilene cachers got together for a meal or something. Thoughts?

I would also be interested as long as it doesn't conflict with work or school. I've gone out caching with BigJon in San Angelo and we've talked about trying to get something started here. We"ve also talked about getting a group of West Texas cachers together for the Texas Challenge Competition. So anyone who would like to join me there I would like to start a West Texas group for the challenge. My dad said he'd join the team so we have two so far.

Sounds good to us. What does that require? We are both active duty Air Force so we might need a little advance notice so we can take vactation time.

Also, we hid our first 5 caches today and are looking forward to people's comments. They are already listed! It only took about 2 hours! Amazing!

San Angelo just continues to boom in the cache column....we've made three trips from Midland and each time we cache two days and have filled up the two days of finding caches...I now see a bunch more hidden...so definitely worth a trip!

After the first of the year, we will try to get something started.
How does Denny's on a Saturday afternoon sound? (suggestion)
