Anybody seen any good tutorial sites for actualy entering codes and such into the cache submission form? It is not entirely obvious to me how to get the format to work out right. For example, do you have to use html, to get space between lines of text? I was working on one, and it looked fine in the window, but the final product was mushed together. I still have lots of work to do!

They do tell you that before it's approved, it might look all squished together. But no, you don't have to, if you're not doing your own HTML. As for tutorials....just pester 9key. That's what I did, and he told me a few lines. I had to kind of work things out as I went along.

I was reading up on html, a couple years ago, seems i forgot most of what I learned, maybe I have a reason to review some of that. I went through a book by this guy: www.htmlgoodies.com HTML Goodies by Joe Burns Most of the stuff in the book is on his website. edit ( addendum I was thinking this forum would render the code above into a clickable link, without all of the (A HREF gobbleygook) ah well, danged ole newbies hmmm click a box, DOH multiple edits to fiddle with formatingD;

You have to check that box below this square if you want to add code to a forum post. Hmm. I tried to fix yours, but couldn't do it right. Heck, I'm no techie. Ask Char.

Like this, and put the bold tags outside the link tags <B><a href="http://www.htmlgoodies.com" target="_blank"> HTML Goodies by Joe Burns</a></B>
This forum doesn't seem to be picking up the tags, even thought I checked the "adding code" box. Didn't work in preview, but I'm putting it here to see if it works when it posts. <b><a href="http://www.htmlgoodies.com" target="_blank"> HTML Goodies by Joe Burns</a></b> Anyway here are some links to some basic HTML stuff. This one is a real basic tutorial,: www.pagetutor.com/pagetutor/makapage/quik-index.htmlThese other two, good, but kind of intermediate, the second one much more explaining and wordy: www.htmlclinic.com/archive.ncsa.uiuc.edu/General/Internet/WWW/HTMLPrimerAll.html#TEMAs for the "squished" look, yes you have to put in a forced line break that is <br> where you want to start on a new line, two breaks if you want a space between the lines. Or you can use the paragraph tag <P> but I perfer just using breaks. I am not by any stretch of the imagination a code expert, but I can muddle my way though most of the basic stuff. Any thing specific you have in mind for your page, I'll try to help ya out. WCB

Where can I see the logos again? I know I saw them once before when I was here, but I can't seem to find any links that work now. Anyway was just wanting to suggest to Plaidbeard's Crew that you submit a logo to Keenpeople.com to go on the state affiliations page. TXGA is on there, and I recently got the Southeast Texas Geocachers logo put on there, they look lonely, need West Texas on there too!! The logo has to be 90 by 42 and .jpg . Don't have to be that big, but can't be bigger. BTW, I "work" over at the Houston/Southeast Texas Geocachers forum--same proboards message base as this one. Give us a visit if you get a chance. southeast.proboards18.com/index.cgiWCB

Where can I see the logos again? I know I saw them once before when I was here, but I can't seem to find any links that work now. They're about halfway down this page: westtxcaching.proboards26.com/index.cgi?board=codes&action=display&thread=1074373096 and they loaded up for me okay. Anyone else having trouble? I did come up with a few more of them, scattered about. Too lazy to hunt them down this morning. I'm not into stats, so I never joined keenpeople. And since none of us seem to like the same logo, we don't have an 'official' one. Besides, I don't really like any of them enough to put up on another site! I was embarrassed enough to find out that Will linked the codes page here to the TXGA forum! Nice to see you here, mysterious one. I've checked out your forum before (when I was trying to find out how you guessed we planted Cotton Canyon!!!!!!).

Yeah, that's what I was trying and got the same results. I thought I just missed something, like I always do, but apparently this forum just works a little differently.

I was embarrassed enough to find out that Will linked the codes page here to the TXGA forum! Nice to see you here, mysterious one. I've checked out your forum before (when I was trying to find out how you guessed we planted Cotton Canyon!!!!!!). Thanks, I found them, though a couple of the links didn't work, most did. I'm not much into stats either, can take 'em or leave 'em, but a lot of people like them. My main reason for wanting to get our logo on Keenpeople.com was just another way for cachers to find our forum. If you send the guy the URL, you can link the logo to your forum or your web page if you have one. I thought the "generic" looking one with the barb wire would do nicely if no one could decide on just one of the others. But, I'll not butt in your business, just throwing out the idea...... How I guessed Cotton Canyon?? Well, I had been seeing Plaidbeard's Crew in the new cache alerts, thought it was an interesting name, checked out some of the caches you were placing, they were really cool too--would love to have a go at that bat cave one!!! And you know how you kind of get to know someone by their "cyber persona". Well, when Cotton Canyon came out, it just sort of seemed to me that it fit you, so I made a guess at it. Hope we have dissolved some of our "mysteries" as hubby (Captain J) and I made our first event cache this AM! WCB

Yeah, that's what I was trying and got the same results. I thought I just missed something, like I always do, but apparently this forum just works a little differently. Don't know what the snag is here on this board with the links not working using HTML tags. They work okay on our message board. I ran through the admin stuff and couldn't see any where that you could turn HTML on or off or anything like that. Maybe there's something been put in the headers/footers that's hindering it. If Plaidbeard's Crew could check that, and if that is not the case, I'll peruse the ProBoards Support and see if I can find out anything else that might be causing it. Just did a little experiment, since you mentioned not wanting use all that <A HERF stuff.....seems to work okay making hyperlinks using the UBBC stuff. Using this code: [b][url=http://www.htmlgoodies.com]HTML Goodies by Joe Burns[/url][/b] .......You get this hyperlink that opens in a new window. HTML Goodies by Joe BurnsI checked it both ways and it doesn't matter if you put the bold tags outside the URL tags or inside surrounding the link's name of "HTML Goodies by Joe Burns". Plus....didn't even have to check the "adding code" box, I forgot the first preview (don't we always!?!) and saw that it worked without the box being checked. Learn something new everyday..... WBC

Ah.....thank you for the explanation. I was wondering who the heck in Houston would know about us way up here. Btw, I did offer an explanation of our ID at the TXGA forum. Well, I'll look through the admin. stuff......but I dunno if I'm the one to find anything.
