OK, I just have to complain. I currently own 4 TBs. Of them, 1 is MIA, and the other 3 are in other people's hands and haven't been placed in over 6 months. I've e-mailed the people that have them, and they have their reasons, but I'm just about ready to either come and get them or have them mail them to me! I mean one of them lives in Midland and the other is in Odessa - that's not too far away - and it's not like there aren't plenty of caches they could just stick them in! So, sorry, I'm just venting. I just got done e-mailing everyone AGAIN regarding the TBs asking them to place them. Is it even worth buying the TBs? Does everyone else have this problem?

YES. Our first was in someone's pocket for months and months, and then, when he finally put it in a cache, it got picked up again by someone who's had it for MORE months and months. I hate it!! and they won't even answer emails!!!! They're in Phoenix, so I can't go get 'em myself, but I've been tempted to email them one more time and tell them I'm reporting it as a theft. But I guess threatening them is not the way to go.

Yeah, I keep getting these excuses. At least they could mail them back or something. I just got done making out a new tag for the one that ended up MIA, so it'll more or less start over again - but I just don't understand why people have to ruin the game! Of course, I've held on to some for longer than I should have before (due to medical reasons - there's an excuse of my own! but never for 6-7 months! But, threatening doesn't sound like a bad idea at this point... OK, I feel better - so it's not just a conspiracy against me!

I seem to remember on one of the geocache forums a year or so ago that somebody figured over half of the travel bugs go missing rather quickly. I think that may be conservative. I've got four out there and only one is still alive - and it was first given a ride by none other than Pladdie! One made it to China, Singapore and other spots in the orient, 19,000 miles only to vanish in the wilds of Missouri. Another was handed over to a cacher at an event cache and never heard from again (in Odessa, BTW). Several folks in NM have refused to do travel bugs any more since they disappear so quickly. I'm pretty close to agreeing with them. It's a shame, 'cause the things are pretty cool. Which reminds me, I've got several in the cabinet right now and if anyone wants them, I'll bring them Sunday for the event cache. Anyway, it's a great idea, but a poor result in many cases. Durn it.

Yes, we're about to replace our pocketed one. I've just given up it - or hey, I hereby report it as a theft to you, Jim.

I've also got a couple of TBs that I'll bring to the event. I just picked them up yesterday - so these actually aren't ones I'm pocketing! I'm determined not to give up on the TBs, they're just too much fun. I made a copy of the "copy" tag and laminated it. I then grabbed my bug from the cache that it came missing from and am starting a new TB out in it's place. It may be more of a hassle than it's worth, and it's really not the copy tag that I'm sending with this one. I don't want it to come up missing also. We'll see how this works anyway. Hope to meet everyone there.

Yeppers, from the Texas Geogcaching forum, this is common, yet not understandable ... bummer, is alls I can say (I like your idea on making a new tag and just starting it again, I mean ... why not) anyway, I've only got out 2 so far, and I'll keep putting them out when I find some worthy of being TBs, and I guess I'll grieve when they go missing - or someone holds them forever. Don't dispare, its not just you! Looking forward to meeting ya at the meeting ... ;D Yeppers, everybuddy bring 'em on! Let's TB the place to death oh and....shameless plug .. there are several TBs in Midland ;D ... one of them came from Big Spring, so no fair taking it back! Char

Yes, we're about to replace our pocketed one. I've just given up it - or hey, I hereby report it as a theft to you, Jim. I'll get right on it..... BTW, the TB's in my cabinet are not ones I'm holding, they are new ones I ordered last year and never sent out. I noticed my earlier post sounded like I was collecting them and keepin them in the cabinet I'll bring them along.

Not the only at all, 2Pounds.
And some get stranded in caches that aren't visited often.
I felt sorry for one TB that had stayed stranded in the Franklin Mountains in El Paso (2-3 hour round trip cache) and moved it to a site that would be a 30 minute diversion from I-10. This was in August, I think. It's still there, still waiting to get to it's first target city.

Just got an email on Sat. morn that said: "Again - sorry it took so long to get the Flyin' Ryan bug back out. The last 3 weeks, Chicago has barely cracked the 20° mark." Okay, so far, so good. Then: "The reason I'm writing though is that the On No, Not another Seed Cache! cache had a log from yesterday afternoon from AFTER my log. It's by a cacher from the area known as Sneaky Pete. He's a rogue that goes around and raids the contents of the caches, and keeps any travel bugs he finds. It doesn't look like he's actually snagged the bug yet - it's still in the cache's inventory. But the log on the cache simply says "Stopped by to pick up a travel bug." Of the 14 bugs he's found so far, all of them are still listed in his possession. "I wish there were something I could do about this guy. I will send a copy of this e-mail to the folks at Geocaching.com - but I don't know if there's anything they can do. He's really making a mess of things around here. I just wanted to let you know that it appears that your bug may soon go MIA." Great.......can't gc.com ban this guy or something?
